Trust a Family-Owned Memphis Institution With Your Plumbing Needs
National Economy Plumbers has the know-how.
Based in Memphis for Nearly 90 Years
National Economy Plumbers began as a family-run business in Memphis in 1938. Our leadership has over 100 years of combined experience, and the technicians doing work on your homes or businesses have been on the job for decades.
Throughout the history of NEP, our focus has been on Memphis, an expansive city with varied plumbing systems and issues. We do what we do to keep the plumbing on our home turf running smoothly.
Family Owned From the Beginning
Our president, Dennis Bailey, and our Vice President, Benjie Sneed, grew up in the business, spending summers and weekends learning the trade. They came of age as the plumbing systems most prominent in East Memphis—plastics-based systems—became the norm.
Though based in Midtown, where older systems predominate, NEP’s team has a wealth of experience with newer plumbing systems. We believe no plumbing problem is too big or too small: we do it all to keep the plumbing you rely on for your daily life running smoothly.

Have Questions? We Have Answers!
What is the average response time for emergency plumbing calls to NEP, especially outside of regular business hours?
During regular working hours, we make schedule adjustments, and every accommodation possible to assist with emergency situations. After regular working hours, a return call from the plumber is designed to be within fifteen minutes.
Can commercial plumbing jobs be completed during regular business hours without closing down, or is it better to conduct them outside of business hours?
Most repairs are usually strategically handled during working hours to assist with keeping the business in operation. In cases where the repair will disrupt normal business for the client, we provide service before or after the opening or closing of the business.
What does preventative maintenance look like in a commercial kitchen setting?
The most common problem in commercial kitchens, where preventative maintenance would greatly help keeping the business in operation, are drain stoppages. From correct maintenance of the grease separator, to mechanical drain cleaning, preventative maintenance provides longevity of the plumbing system and how it operates. There is usually maintenance that can be provided for the hot water source and the regularly used faucets, also in a commercial kitchen.
How are large system renovations or installations handled for commercial clients?
Almost always, larger scale replacements and renovations are handled after regular working hours, as to not disrupt daily business.
Why would a plumbing job require a full-system shutdown? How does scheduled maintenance address those risk factors?
Whether residential or commercial, water leaks, drain stoppages, and some drain repairs require a full shutdown, in order for us to disconnect, repair, and/or replace any piping, cut-offs, and other items.
Expert Hands for Mid-Century and Newer Housing Developments
Pre- and Post-WWII Plumbing Systems: What’s the Difference?
While National Economy Plumbers’ brick and mortar location lies in Midtown, where older homes are prominent, our expertise extends to mid-century and newer developments that are more common in East Memphis. These newer homes are often plumbed with plastic piping, which in theory is longer-lasting than the clay and cast-iron plumbing that is common in older homes. This depends, however, on the stability of the construction—sometimes we find that plastic options are failing sooner than they should be.
When it comes to plastic plumbing, the devil’s in the details. If corners were cut in the installation process, if support for the piping system is insufficient, or if joints in the system are improperly glued or weakened through twisting or overtightening, your plumbing system may have vulnerabilities.
Give Your Plumbing System a Clean Bill of Health
We rely on plumbing to work smoothly. It undergirds much of our modern life. When something like a water leak or a backed-up drain pops up, it can send you into a tailspin—unless you call National Economy Plumbers. At National Economy Plumbers, no job is too big or too small. From structural issues with your plumbing from improper installation to dealing with your slow-draining kitchen sink, everything is in our wheelhouse. Our 24/7 service and 90 years of experience in the business make us the best choice for any job.
Have More Questions? We Have Answers!
Are there any warning signs of plumbing vulnerabilities I can look out for?
Most plumbing is concealed, so more often than not, plumbing problems occur when least expected. Slow draining fixtures, water pressure too low or too high, and fixtures/faucets not operating correctly, are all signs that the plumbing should be checked.
What is the general lifespan of a properly installed plastic plumbing system?
When it comes to PVC drain piping that has been used since the 1970s, it has proven that when installed correctly, these systems will be around for many decades without problems.
What are the common causes of failure in plastic plumbing systems?
The most common causes of failure have been with plastic water piping. There have been several types of plastic water piping that have not held up well over time. The cause is for numerous reasons, including high water pressure, vulnerability to hot water, the manufacturer’s chemical makeup of the piping notwithstanding, and incorrect installation practices.
Can a plumbing system be checked for structural vulnerabilities in a noninvasive way, or does it require digging?
The integrity of a plumbing system, whether it be water or drain, can be difficult to check without some invasive measures. However, with the technology we have with pipe cameras, sound & gas detection, and electronic locating, we can see and locate many issues without causing damage.
Can sections of improperly installed plastic piping be fixed or replaced without full system shutdowns or replacing the whole system?
It is often found that we replace sections of piping that have failed due to being improperly installed and for other reasons, and this work is performed without affecting the remainder of the system.
